JL Finale 11 Duels: 6-2 The Canary Cry

Ripper pressed hard and Sara could not get a break to reassemble her staff. Separated as a pair of batons her defense was minimized against his sword, then suddenly in her ear, “Watch your eyes Sara!” Sara leaped back and turned away and continued to spin and roll. She saw the flash and heard a grunt from Ripper and in the next moment Oliver was at her side. He was out of exploding arrows, but still had armor piercing arrows. He aimed for what he suspected to be sensitive places. Letting loose with three arrows at once he hit Ripper in what might pass for an eye, the neck and where the heart might be. Sara was in like a blink after Oliver's arrows and with her now reassembled staff she stabbed point first into the open area between the abdomen and chest.

Ripper paused then looked down at the blond woman that had her weapon embedded in him. If he had facial muscles, she would have seen him smile. He didn't waste time on talk, he grabbed her and lifted her up but she still was able to twist out of his grip. He snarled and swung at her with his bladed arm. He hadn't had time to give the blade a full charge, but he did manage to connect with her right thigh slicing through her favorite stockings and into her flesh. The vibration of the blade was luckily minimal, but it ripped the top of her thigh, tearing the muscle.

Sara back flipped and spun out of reach and landed on her ass next to Oliver. The next thing that happened was so quick in real time that Oliver barely had a chance to cover his ears, let alone have a chance to warn the others, but he saw that look on Sara's face and knew what was about to happen.

Sara had stabbed Ripper where she thought he was vulnerable from what Julia had instructed them. And when he paused she thought she had him. But then for a second she was shocked and then angry with herself as the giant mech grabbed her and lifted her up. She knew he was going to run her through with that sword, but she had faced worse and she twisted right out of his grip, but then that buzz started and she felt a burning pain across the top of thigh as she back flipped away and landed on her behind next to Oliver.

Time stopped for her. This was the first time in a while she had allowed anyone to strike her, let alone draw blood. Her anger piqued instantly, and using her staff for leverage she stood up, pain lancing through her leg to her toes and head. She used that pain, concentrated, opened her mouth and screamed only the scream she could do.

The chamber rang like a bell and Ripper went flying across the room smashing into the far wall and crashing to the ground, now both wings damaged and torn from his body. As an added bonus, a mass of advancing skeletons, zombies and harpies were all taken out by the sonic blast. Skeletons blew to pieces, the zombies dissolved or had appendages blown off. The harpies were blown against the back wall or right back down into the stone dragon's gullet. Anyone not caught in the blast radius were momentarily stunned.

That's when Oliver saw Batman riding on Tank's back with Tank's guns glowing green. A lot of the fighting had suddenly stopped, many being shocked by Sara's cry, but not all. He could see some commotion near the mouth of the dragon, but there were too many figures blocking his view. Even though he was feeling a bit sick himself from the Harpy poison he had to make sure Sara was okay. When he went to her he saw her leg was sliced pretty bad and she was nearly passed out, so he got some gauze from a pack he had and bandaged her as best he could. All he could do at that point was to sit beside her leaning against a rock and holding Sara's head in his lap. Next, in his growing delirium, he thought he heard screams and when he looked towards the dragon's mouth he thought his eyes were playing tricks.
